“This year we would like to combine the efforts of our Participation in Government Classes to complete a service learning project that will result in honoring our community members, and their families, who were veterans.”

The project involves a breakfast honoring local veterans, a Memorial Day ceremony on the circle in front of the High School, installation of two benches and commemorative plaque, honorary designation of circle as “Veterans Circle” with post and sign. Committee recommendation.

Grant: $400 for benches, plaque, post, and sign

 

Brian J. Kane, BH-BL High School

“The funds will be used to finance a global pen pal project for Global History and Geography students in grades 9 and 10. Students are given an opportunity to correspond with peers in another part of the world.”

Amount requested – $187.50 (125 students @ $1.50/pp) Committee recommendation – full funding.

Grant: $187.50

 

Kristina Neddo, Pashley Elementary School

“Funds will be used to finance the materials needed to make and send postcards to classrooms around the United States. Other materials to be funded would include a wall map, tacks, string, and bulletin board to showcase the location of the 150+ postcards received by Pashley students in grades 3-5.”

Grant: $100 for postage, a map, and atlases
